About Us

We Work Together

The Samuel Kanyon Doe Foundation is a non-profit organization established to honour the legacy of Samuel Kanyon Doe, the first democratically elected and indigenous President of Liberia. Born out of the need to address historical injustices and empower communities, the foundation is dedicated to uplifting individuals and fostering sustainable development across Liberia.

Our Background
Samuel Kanyon Doe rose to prominence through his historic coup d'état on April 12, 1980, which ended the 133-year rule of the True Whig Party. His ascension marked a significant shift in Liberian politics, aiming to address the systematic marginalization faced by the indigenous population. Under Doe's leadership, Liberia experienced a period of economic growth and development, clearing international debt and maintaining a stable exchange rate. However, since 1990, Liberia has struggled to regain its former prosperity, with corruption and exploitation plaguing the nation.

Our Mission

The Samuel Kanyon Doe Foundation is committed to advancing the principles of empowerment, education, and community development. By leveraging the ideals and accomplishments of Samuel Kanyon Doe, the foundation seeks to:

  1. Empower individuals and communities: Through targeted initiatives, the foundation aims to empower Liberians to become active participants in their own development. By providing access to education, skills training, and resources, individuals can unlock their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
  2. Promote equality and justice: Building upon the legacy of Samuel Kanyon Doe, the foundation advocates for the rights and dignity of all Liberians. By addressing systemic inequalities and promoting inclusive policies, the foundation seeks to create a more just and equitable society for future generations.
  3. Foster sustainable development: Recognizing the importance of long-term sustainability, the foundation prioritizes initiatives that promote economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social cohesion. By investing in infrastructure, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, the foundation seeks to lay the groundwork for a prosperous and resilient Liberia.
